Stanton Warriors – Stanton Sessions Vol. 1 released for FREE download on Soundcloud

April 7, 2010 § Leave a comment

BIG UP to the Stanton Warriors who have released their LEGENDARY mix, “The Stanton Sessions, Volume One” for FREE download on soundcloud. I have personally bought this album at least two times (burned through one from too many listens and gave the other to a friend who needed to hear it.) It’s one of THOSE albums.. it just rocks the fucking party (or car, ipod, stoop, etc.) This mix dropped in 2001 and put Stanton Warriors on the map in a big way. This mix is a great snapshot of music from 2001.. when breaks and twostep were starting to meld into what would later become dubstep.. but a time when it was all fresh and new and mashed-the-fuck-up. Highlights here include a Busta Rhymes acapella over some Warriors breaks, Bushwacka’s remix of Renegade Soundwave’s “The Phantom” and punchy dubstep sounds from T Power. Grab this mix now!

DJ M50 presents Hydrogen Econ mx1 [free download, crank the bass]

February 28, 2010 § Leave a comment

I was STOKED to get this snack-pack of bass from my newfound friend and purveyor of deepness, DJ M50. Hailing from Chicago by way of Canada, this producer has snuck up on the scene with some badass dj sets and a release (under the Area alias) on Francois K’s Wave imprint. M50 has been making a name lately with sounds that cross the boundaries of house, tech, dub and idm. On the DJ Circuit he’s made moves by playing alongside many of the greats: Speedy J, Ellen Allien, Apparat, Swayzak, Miles Maeda, Quarion, Hauke Freer, Superpitcher, Herbert, Suburban Knight, Andrea Parker, & Common Factor.. (phew!) Check this mix he dropped for Sounds Defy Gravity.. make sure to lower the lights, pack the bong and crank the bass..

SCUBA defies logic and blows minds with INFLUENCES (free) dj mix

February 2, 2010 § Leave a comment

As the title implies this mix (Influences) cuts through every genre possible while maintaining that groove Scuba is known for. More below from Allez Allez blog.

influences mix – by scuba (98.10mb, 71:26mins)

This week we have a brilliant wide ranging mix from the curator of hotflush recordingsscuba. hotflush was one of the original dubstep labels and was responsible for some of the key releases during the genre’s early days.

scuba (real name paul rose) took the well trod path from london to berlin a few years back, a move which influenced the sound of his acclaimed debut mutual antipathy (keep an eye out for the new scuba album ‘triangulation’ arriving at the end of march) and his house/techno alter ego SCB.

the city also hosts his phenominally succesful SUB:STANCE night at the home of techno berghain where alongside paul fowler he has been preaching from the pulbit of bass since 2008. the night is set to release its first mix cd ‘sub:stance 01′ on ostgut ton next week – get the full info here. until monday though this mix will take to the furthurest reaches of what makes scuba tick.

Cates & DPL – Live June Podcast released in anticipation of "351" single on OM

June 4, 2009 § 2 Comments

Portland’s wonder-duo of Cates and DPL are set to release a new single with OM at the end of June entitled “351.” As a teaser Cates, DPL and Om have posted a new mix by the duo online.

Cool details from the OM Blog: Our favorite production duo from Portland, Cates&dpL are gearing up for their next single ‘351’ due out on June 30th. Back in April we conducted a remix contest via SOUNDCLOUD in which the winner would get his remix officially released with the single. Unfortunately, we ran in to a little problem, there were simply too many quality remixes submitted and we couldn’t just pick one. The end result is a 8 track release with 7 remix winners including Hanssen (Jacob London), Forest Avery (fellow Oregonian), Ezekiel Bickford, Oliver Maier, Pete Dooman, Rob Slac of Chillin Music & Earth Delivery. Just to give you a taste, stream the original production below and look out for the digital release later this month. Don’t forget to download the Cates&dpL ‘Live June Podcast’ after the jump including new productions from Audio Soul Project, Mike Monday and some handy original and remix work from the dynamic duo.

May 13, 2009 § Leave a comment

Boston-based personality, dj and producer Matt Diamond (aka The Bald and the Beautiful with Tanner Ross) has been creating some highly sought-after and soulful mixes over the past couple of years. After a few legendary performances at the Phoenix Landing and other Boston spots Matt Diamond has gained a reputation for laying down slow, soulful, bumpy and smooth mixes of music you’ve never heard before.. or at least never thought about putting into a dj set. I love Matt’s dj mixes and was psyched to find this podcast he did for Soul Clap.

From the Soul Clap Blog: For those who remember Matty Dimond’s last podcast for us, you’ll recall this master of programing laces his mix with a selection of deep, classy and impeccably qualified joints to turn any gloomy day into a burst of ecstatic color. His latest contribution to Adventures of Soul Clap takes our ears on a slo-mo journey through tracks from the likes of Trus’me, IMPS (Minilogue’s side project), Mark E, Theo Parrish and a Yam Who remix of Grace Jones latest “Williams Blood” that we consider an instant classic. Now sit back, strap on your stereo and take your pick; Champagne or Mimosa?

2. Mock & Toof – K-Choppers – Mark E Remix

Boston's DJ Randy Deshaies serves up a mix of deep-house classics for Soul Clap

May 13, 2009 § 1 Comment

Marz Entertainment head-honcho and deep-house DJ extrodinaire Randy Deshaies has just released a beautiful podcast with Soul Clap. Episode 51: Randy Deshaies’ Unauthorized History is a throwback to the days many consider the peak of house music’s evolution. Reaching back into the early to mid 90’s Randy seamlessly mixes classics from your sweaty memories of the warehouse for a brilliant ride. Subscribe to Soul Clap’s Blog and Podcast to hear it.. or check them out on FeedBurner.

From Soul Clap’s Blog:

Deshaies is a New England DJ hero and one of Boston’s pioneers of the San Fran/Chicago house sound that swept the late 90’s and early 2000’s. His crew, the ever so rave-a-ly named Marz Entertainment, launched in the mid 90’s and ran for over a decade at the top of the local dance music scene and his Sunday night party at the Phoenix Landing called Bump, with resident DJs Randy, Sergio Santos and Ryan Obermiller was responsible for countless DJ sets from the likes of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Heather, Colette, DJ Sneak, Diz, Justin Martin and many others.

Fast forward to the future and It is with great pleasure that we present a mix from Mr. Deshaies himself. Here’s a few words from the man who describes his podcast as “upbeat and vibey with a touch of nostalgia to grab the essence of DJing as I interpret it. [The songs represent] two decades of some instrumental tunes and choice selections that have shaped my passion for House Music. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride…”
